Tills & Carl - Brighton College

Occasionally you meet people in life who have so many nicknames, versions and variations on their given name that you end up at a bit of a loss as to what to actually call them. Rebecca Heasman (née Tilley) is one such person! I met Carl and Tills way back in May last year and despite feeling like I really got to know them both, I’m still not entirely sure what I should be calling Becky. She goes by Bex, Becky, Rebecca, Becca, Tills and probably many I have yet to hear! Anyway, for the purposes of this blog I’m going to refer to her as Tills. Carl unfailingly uses this one and as ‘Heas’ doesn’t roll of the tongue in the same way, and it’s nice to hang on to something from before the wedding day, Tills it shall be!
Carl & Tills were married at the magnificent Brighton College in mid-August. They got ready a few miles away at the Kings Hotel on the seafront where Tills had a lovely big suite before heading over to the College. Their day was unique in that it featured two ceremonies. The Chapel at Brighton College is stunning, but it’s not licensed for marriages and as such Carl & Tills opted for a civil ceremony in the Hordern Room before moving into the Chapel for a blessing. I’ve seen this structure a few times before, but it’s always enjoyable to photograph something that’s slightly out of the ordinary. As readers of this blog will know, I love the periods that happen between the main ‘chapters’ of a wedding and the format of the Carl & Tills’ day leant itself to this.
Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, with masses of coastal fog and drizzle that occasionally became rain, however in true British style that didn’t dampen spirits! Brighton College has some superb indoor areas and between the Great Hall and the Sixth Form Common Room there was plenty of space for people to enjoy themselves despite the weather. After speeches the three of us jumped in a cab and headed to the seafront for some portraits. While the west end was quite still, strangely the bandstand side of the pier was blowing a gale! I really enjoyed this wedding day, Carl & Tills are wonderfully warm people and they’ve got some fantastic mates. My thanks to them both for having me on their day and for being wicked to work with. An extra thanks to Claire Thackway from Brighton College for being a great help throughout the day. As ever, here’s a selection of my favourites.
